car2go wanted to have a presence at San Diego Comic-Con, but wasn’t an official sponsor. We knew that our competitors, Uber and Lyft would be unjustly inflating their prices during the event, so we created Surge Order: a faceless hacking group that exists to combat bloated surge pricing.
While we hacked car2go’s competition, offering free rides in car2go vehicles, we had Surge Order reach out directly to Comic-Con attendees - sending them on a scavenger hunt in car2go vehicles all over San Francisco. The prize? Three impossibly rare comic books ranging from $12k to $20k in value.
car2go made headlines throughout the tech world, and gained thousands of new members in the process, helping people beat the surge and enjoy Comic-Con free from rideshare tyranny.
